Problem:
When upgrading to a 6.x Notes Client, the MSI Installer will use the paths
found in the Windows Registry on a workstation for the currently installed
Notes Client. The current Notes Client can be Release 4.x, 5.x, or 6.x. If
Windows Registry settings are not found, the install will run as a clean
install of the Notes Client.
The MSI Installer looks to the registry first for the directory paths. If none
are found, it will look next to the command line and then to the Transform
file. Changing the path in the UI will not allow for the Notes Client to be
installed to a different directory. This is working as designed, and is
different behavior from the Notes 5.x installer which allows for specification
of the directories.
To change the directories for a Notes Client install, uninstall the current
version of Notes Client to remove entries from the registry. The directories
can then be specified either in the Transform file, the command line or the
user interface during install.
For the Windows 2000 platform, the directories specified on the command line or
in the Transform file are not used for a new install (SPR # CDFO5GQQRC). This
issue has been addressed in Notes 6.0.3 Client.
An enhancement request, to make the program and data directory change buttons
unavailable (grayed out) in the user interface when upgrading if an existing
6.x installation is detected, was submitted to Quality Engineering (SPR #
KBRE5LQPX3), and was addressed in Notes 6.0.3 Client. More >
